 what is the maximum power you can give a search coil ? want to add some voltage in a modification to get better receive and more voltage to the coil for better dept. can you go from 9 volts to 12 volts in a 5 pnp transistor setup?

I don't know the answer to this, but I do know that if there is a "legal" limit it is going to vary from country to country.  (There may be an international "standard" but that's different than a legislated limit)

Don't do it. It cannot be easily done in existing hardware.

The maximum power in the United States is set by licensing, not by your hardware. From memory, I believe it is 200mw. I could be wrong on that because it's been a long time since I looked it up.

The other answer is a bit harder. Your hardware is designed for a certain amount of power. Exceeding it would not be good for the equipment and would probably damage things. You have two clear options. Design a new system or buy a more sensitive machine. May I presume this is the same BFO machine you have been asking about for weeks now? If so, get a PI machine and you'll get better depth.
