I'm looking for a detector for for my 5 year old.  Has anyone used the bounty hunter junior,  will it find coins underground.  I messed around with a "kids" detector and it had a hard time reading a penny on contact.

Any of the cheapo Radio shack detectors would be cool.

They work!

My 9 year old has found goodies down to 4-6 "   !!!

At 11 I conned my mom into paying $50.00 for a No Name BFO and to this day I wish I still had it.

My 7 yo grandson has a Radio shack detector that he use on the dry sand and does well with it. Also Target sales a National Geographic cheapo detector that I have seen kids using and finding some coins at the ball park

Garrett "ace" 150..... nice lightweight little detector and easy to use.
You might get a used one at a reasonable price (at least you'd be able to sell it on for more or less what you paid if he gets bored with it)

I wouldn't go to Radio Shack for a detector, Try Kellyco.com They always have some nice used detectors that will work for a nice price" I'm talking inexpensive" I agree with Paul a nice Ace 250 would be something he can grow with. The trick to buying a good detector is knowing what he will be looking for. If you are going to be looking in parks and Grandpas back yard for lost coins you can't beat Garrett's Ace 250.

I often set the shaft on my Tesoro Compadre down low for kids to use. It's light weight, crazy powerful and yet is a "turn on and go" machine. As a plus, it will be a bang up backup machine for you. Can be found used in the $50 to $70 range. Lifetime warranty.
