Heya,

I'm sure this is answered someplace in these forums, but I cannot seem to locate it, and I am not really sure which board to find it.

I have a few questions on what you guys do with your precious metals and stones?

Say you find an engagement ring made of 10K gold and has a big honking diamond in it.  Do you sell the stone and gold separately?  Do you take the ring to a jeweler and sell it off at standard gold and diamond prices?

Or do you gather all like gold item (such as 10k), remove the stones and what not, then melt it into a lump?   (Same question for silver)

Or do you take it all to a jeweler to do and sell that...

I haven't found the first big ticket item yet...but when I do I want to be ready Smiley

Thanks,
Chris

CC you will find we all have different ways to unload our stuff. Most of my finds are bottles are stuff from cache sites so I sale it thru my wife's antique shop. When I do coin shot its mostly water hunting and 90 % of the rings and stuff I find can be cleaned up and sold at the shop or on fleebay. I save up scrap till I have an oz or two and sale to a local jeweler who pays me 95 % which I am happy with.

Homefire has a place that also pays top dollar by mail, I lost the link so maybe he will repost it.

When it comes to jewelry, a lot is going to depend upon the individual item, what it appraises for, and whether you can find someone to sell it for you without taking an unreasonable cut.   If you can get more selling it as a whole, do it that way.   If scrap pays more, go that way.

Eaaa, If you Find a Market for Used Diamonds let me know.

No one I can find will even look at anything under 1/2C.

These guys pay the best of any I've used.
