Welcome aboard from the Australian continent!  Are there relic hunters here? Oh, yeah. Plenty.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Probably over half of the detectorists on the site are relic hunters. There are some folks who always search mainly for coins, but most enjoy the thrill and excitement of finding something from earlier times such as war relics or items from old towns, etc. Bottle digging is some of the hardest manual labor I've ever done, but it is also very rewarding. I've found many interesting bottles and other interesting items while on a bottle dig. It's best to dig bottles in winter, but I've done digging when the sun was hot and we had to use a tent above us to keep the sun off of us---and we drank plenty of water, etc to keep us hydrated. CAUTION: BOTTLE DIGGING CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS...I've had a cave ins that nearly broke my leg---TWICE!   and I've heard of folks being smothered to death trying to tunnel beneath the soil to get to bottles. Bottles are nice and potentially valuable, but dodn't be foolish and lose your life over them...Think, Be very cautious, and enjoy the hobby longer. Good luck to all who try.
