Sorry for the many postings about my thrift store finds. I'm enjoying this form of treasure hunting and of course have questions. Seldom and others, what is the difference between Royal Hanover dinnerware with the HMS letters on top of the seal and mine that only has the seal, but not the initials. What does HMS stand for anyways?

Just saw the picture man I am losing it

Royal Hanover China from Bavaria, Germany, pattern number RHA1. It is a lovely floral pattern with a pink rose on a white background. T is a gold trim around the edge.

Is that a good sign?  :- . I just paid $0.99 per plate. If they are not good I could still use them. Sorry for my ignorance I don't know about plates and their values. They just look cute to my wife.

The best I can come up with, with the info I have at home is that Royal Hanover China Company made dining ware for the Navy for a number of years. From book prices looks like the stuff not marked HMS (Her/His Majesty's Service) is the better stuff and brings higher prices.

Yesss  Cheesy I found a few of them, including dinner plates. My wife told me that a guy was taking all the cup sets there. I took the plates then just in case they were valuable. What is that book you are mentioning having plate values. I want to purchase one. All of a sudden I'm interested in fine plates $$$  Rider

After a little more reading the HMS has zero to do with Her/His Majesty's Service. Urban legend. I will do a little research on Royal Hanover and see what I come up with.

Pick up some antique price guides and study them. No one book is going to tell you everything. A little about the prices in the guides they are useless HA HA  the valve is an average of what the idem or like idem sold for in the last year. Sometime you can get more sometimes much less a good example is  Star Dairy QT milk bottle one price guide has it valued at 8 bucks. Because Star was a Island dairy I get 35 plus for them in Dallas they might bring 15 in Kansas City 3 max. So the real use of the guides is to help you I.D. something then hit the internet and see what its going for at say fleabay. Check the thrift shop for old price guides it info is still good just the prices are dated. Also you library will have many guides

I feel enlightened  Teach. The guides would serve to ID the plates or items that may be valuable or have good resale value. Going for an afternoon hunt right now. Let's see what is new or used that is  Grin

Hi - I've been searching for years to replace a serving dish from a china set inherited by my husband's grandmother.

The bottom is marked Royal Hanover Royal Oak HMS Germany. I can't find ANYTHING - not replacement pieces or any information about where the set came from. After stumbling across this site I was hoping someone could shed some light.

I broke a couple pieces several years ago and I'm so upset to think that they may be valuable and/or irreplaceable that I don't use them anymore!
