Hi folks...
Can someone identify this bottle I found on seafloor a few years ago when was scubadiving.. ?
The glass is also found on seabed, on an other occasion, it's thick heavy and apparently old "handmade" also ??
Sorry for my english, thats why I wrote handmade because don't know right words...  Pray
WBR K

Havent measured the size, but think its something around 1000 cc ...
How do You know it is a rhum bottle,???, which it probably is.. Seabed objects local can't that easy be bound to any specific area, other than objects found in lakes.. It is found where medieval sailships (large) sailed, (longtrade route), so that confirm it has contained rhum.. The drinking glass is found nearer the shore, but also at the same route ..
In what countrys have they made rhum ,or bottled rhum in that specific time, and did they have their own bottlemaking factorys ..
Does bottle like this have any value ? Should I try to clean the bottle Huh?

Hello karpiidi

Thank you for the interesting photos. the bottle and glass may not be related at all. The items may have been deposited at the site at different times.

Many countries make rum. If the bottle was from that time frame then it is possible it came from Jamaica where there was substantial sugar industry.

Is there any writing at the base underneath the bottle?

Hardluck

It does look like a rum bottle,Yet its hard to see if its open pontil or iron pontil that can be a good indication of age if it has a seal its surely stamped. Most inland waterways and ports have or were the place garbage or any unneeded items got tossed off the boats.Try walking out during a minus low tide you wont believe what you find GOOD LUCK!

There's no text in the bottom, just some calcium filled scratches...
Interesting to get know of "pontil", I've never heard that word before, so looked up on google... Fascinating !!!
There seem is a lot to know of bottles,, I must confess,, I have always tought they are just made of glass, not much moore.. Some old some having nice shape, and that's all.. Didn't know one can "read" the history, by looking at it. Getting clues of how it made and origin etc. etc. Stunning..

When found it. I was running out of gas, and had also exceeded my bottom time, was carrying a half ceramic pot spending time to find rest of it. Instead I found what I then considered was "stupid Baileys liquer" bottle..

Still, bottle didn't belong on seabed garbishing, so took it with me up.....

Trying to attach zoomed part of bottom view, of the "pontil",, if not succed, then have to try taking close-up photo of bottom...

Edited: Nah  Sad didn't come up any better... Must try getting picture from better angle...
