Well, I can read some Japanese Kanji but am no expert. However I would also vote for Dean who suggests it is Chinese.

It is a seal for sure. I find similar ones on some of my Japanese sword fittings. I assume it will give the manufacturer and the province where it was made.

Have you found some similar pieces as well in your garden?

Oh..I have hunted out your way many times..have a good friend out there that knows the area like no one else..his name is Chris and he swings an XLT..he doesn't drive so he has problems getting to his farther sites unless he hooks up with me or someone else..that guy finds tons of great stuff!!

He has invited me and a friend to a War of 1812 site about 50 miles from Hamilton he found years ago, but only hit once..he found some nice buttons (Military)  My master brake cylinder blew yesterday and tommorrow is the Canadian Thanksgiving so we all have the day off..I hope my backyard mechanic is around and can fix it..that way maybe next week I will get together with Chris.
