Hello fellow hunters;
Pretty new here, just wanted to ask a few things.!
I have owned the  "Fortune Hunter" Bounty Hunter for a couple of years..
Have taken it to the Arizona Desert, Nevada desert.
Never found anything but junk, such as old bullets, nails and cans.
I guess i need to try parks and beaches.
Has anyone ever found gold with their Fortune Hunter.Huh??
                     Thanks,  Contrygal

That's what you'd expect to find in the deserts. If you want coins and jewelry, you need to go where lots of people have congregated and have moved coins and jewelry from their original spot to another. Digging out coins to buy an ice cream cone can cause some to drop. Removing jewelry to apply sunscreen or lotion is another way that we find the odd ring or bracelet.

In the desert, look for meeting places. They're not hard to find but they are far apart. Places where a few trees live on spring water offer shade and a place to water the horses. When groups traveled, they often used those locations to settle debts or even to leave a cache behind for someone they promised payment to. Deserts were also places where horse races were held near townships. Lots of money changed hands there during a race and after. Schools were small but the children still dropped the occasional coin.

Apply the same logic to all the places you want to hunt. Then dig into the library or local historical society to see where all the local fairs and carnivals where held. Circus tents staked outside of town in open pastures are always good for a find or two. The agricultural fairs have hundreds or even thousands of visitors during their expositions. Scout camps and church camps are very lucrative for hunting off season. Some are on open, public land and some are private so find out if you need permission.

These recommendations are the only the tip of the iceberg. Research from the historical society will no doubt turn up lots of places used hundreds of years ago and now abandoned. If nothing else, the research gives you something to do when the weather is too bad to go outside.

Well, I was going to share my thoughts but it appears that GD pretty well covered it.  Go where people have congregated with their minds on something else.  Old homes are great places too if you can get permission.

Just found this while looking for old posts. I would probably give that a big no unless someone can prove me wrong. It was designed more for coin hunting  and you will notice that most of the scale is dedicated to that. I have a quarter ounce of "pickers", and my Fortune Hunter doesn't register them at all even in the all metal mode. I have found a few coins with it  in the parks. I now use a Tesoro Vaquero with a 5 X 10 elliptical widescan coil. It will detect gold in the all metal mode, but not in the discriminate mode. ( maybe a very large nugget might).

Here's a link to finding meteorites in Arizona near you.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

I agree with that Homie. What I do with that is after I quick detect a park with the Vaquero, digging mostly good signals only. I go back and see if any of the "questionable" signals might be a coin. When I go to the desert I leave it home.

I've used bounty hunters ever since my big old red baron.
I'vehhad a few of the others but as  easily as I break them.
I'm just better off with my trusty bounty hunters.   Wink
