Go Up Go Down

Hi I spent the better part of last weekend playing with my new Bounty Hunter Land Star.
I went to a fair ground , beach & my own yard. My question is first I rarely get the depth right , things can be on the surface & it says 6 " deep. also many times & get a strong beeps  and dig & dig to find nothing & when I cover area up & go over it again with the detector there are no beeps. Where did it go Huh? I ended up with a small sterling ring, 4 pennies  & part of a grill. So alittle disappointed . any suggestions?? Thanks

I have read that targets very close to the coil can cause incorrect depth signals.  Also... phantom targets are often caused by falsing from hot rocks/heavy ground mineralization.  By moving the soil/rocks around you change the effect on the field generated by the coil and the signal disappears.  A silver ring over a weekend sounds pretty good.  Your finds will increase...just have fun :-)

I've experienced the same thing with my Garret. It just goes with the trade. I always check the surface well, especially in grassy areas, before I dig. I've learned not to depend much on the depth indicated. Even the speed of your swing can throw off the depth indication.
Just keep up the good work Cool

Try to reduce sens after getting a signal.

Sometimes the target will ly NEAR the searchcoil, and the depth isn't correct at all. If you reduce sens, the pinpointing, and depth reading, might be much more accurate. Experienced that with my QDII and 10" magnum coil.

I have used the Land Star for several years and have found thousands of coins with it as well as jewelry. One thing on the depth is that if your are swing the coil 1 inch of the ground and get a 6 inch reading, your target (coin) will normally be about 5 inches in the ground. On the signals where there is not a target many times can be from rusted (disintegrated)iron that gives a halo effect.  I  have found(most the time) that by running my sensitivity at 10-12 o'clock is more beneficial than running it at 2 o'clock, because of ground minerals in my area. This setting seems to prove the dim lights in the fog theory.  I run my  machine in the notch mode with the disc nob all the way to the left about 90 % of the time. This will knock out foil, most pull tabs, bottlecaps, small thin gold rings (unfortunately), but will pickup medium to larger rings. Good Luck and HH! CG
