Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505
« on: July 20, 2012, 05:35:18 pm »
Go Up Go Down

I purchased a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 and was pretty excited when I got it earlier in the week.  From everything I read, it's essentially a plug it and go detector and with practice you can use the more advance settings (for a newbie) such as notching and what not.

I opened up the package, read the manual, watched the video and was ready to go.  Building it was pretty easy, attach the coil, put the two rod ends together, wrap the coil cable around and plug it in.

I turned it on, got the start up beeps, pressed the disc button and went to try it on a few pieces of metal and - - - nothing.

Checked the connections, skimmed the manual and video again to see if  I Missed anything, but nothing seemed to be missed.  Thought maybe it was the batteries, so next day went and bought new ones, still the same issue.

After a few hours of web searching and what not I was still stumped why this MD was not detecting at all even though it showed everything as  working during the start up.

By fluke, I was sitting on the couch with the detector upside down and laying across my lap when it beeped.  Shocked the heck out of me.  After some playing around, i noticed it only worked when  I pressed the connection cable down (which is how it was on my lap). Detecting while holding the cable is not the easiest or very productive, and after communicating with the place I purchased it at, they agree that it sounds like there is something wrong with the unit.  To me, it looks like a loose\bad connection inside.

Before I ship it back, has any one else had this type of issue?  If so, did you fix it?

Thanks,
Chris

Well, after talking with the dealer today, I shipped it back.  Looks like I have to wait another 2-3 weeks before getting into this wonderful hobby  Cry  Until then, I will live vicariously through you guys Smiley

Well that's a bit of a Ruff Start but Bounty Hunters are getting machines.

Hang in there and all should be well. Huh?

Your patience will be rewarded. While you wait, go to your local library and look into local history to see where the center of our town was 200 years ago. Then extrapolate the growth to today's maps and streets. You'll have started an invaluable reference that will pay dividends when your machine is back in your hot little hands.

Trust me. It'll be worth every moment you are waiting.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
