Was wondering how long would a brass container if buried be contained untill it falls apart? Have a good lead and location, but was wondering if the container (brass-copper) would still be together or rotted and apart from ground movement and acids in ground? If it's in an iron container I assume it is rotted down by now? Burried around 1885>  thanks  Bob

There would be enough to find.

Iron depletes to Iron Oxide and will be detectable.

Yep!

Copper and Brass, (Copper/Zinc/Other) would be findable too!

how much is left is going to depend on the soil (acidity, normal moisture content, mineral content, etc).  I agree with homefire, though.....you should still find plenty of it left to detect.

If you're really curious about the rate of deterioration of various metals under different conditions, you should find this interesting

Page 43 has a chart comparing the breakdown of various copper alloys (including brass) in different types of soil.
