Since i have lived near the chinese camp, ca area for most of my life i have seen at least three descent little cache stash's unearthed in and and around the general area of chinese camp all of which were found in open area's,  in its hayday chinese camp had more 5 thousand chinese residents who were some of the most detailed miners of the goldrush era...the cache's have all been pretty much the same,  consisting of alot of chinese coins in a rusted canister of some sort, one did have a couple small nuggets at the bottom,  not alot of money but still pretty sweet find

Hello Goldpanner99

Perhaps if you search historic newspapers of the time. they might mention gold discoveries where miners works and possibly Chinese workings. I have not doubt that the Chinese were driven out in some areas like in Australia.

The Chinese where very efficient alluvial workers. They distrusted westerners as were in turn hated by the miners. Much of their gold may of been stashed away in their mining camps because they distrusted the banks. If you can find old survey maps of the time, old newspapers and old accounts in books on local history may help you locate and caches left behind.

Seems you are a possible winner there.

Hello Larry

A lot of miners moved from the California gold fields went onto Australia in 1851 to 1855 and opened up new strikes there. As with California many Chinese flooded the diggings. I know of a fellow semi retired traveled all around Australia looking only for Chinese camps. He has found amazing items from a jar of opium, Jade incense burners, small stashes of gold in Chinese earthen ware vase among other assorted items.

As far as I know he is the only one working solely on Chinese camp sites. If there's good results in Australia I cannot see anything but the same sort of results if some one hunted down Chinese camp sites in America.

Maybe you have a potential gold mine of Chinese camp leads to follow up in your part of the world?

Good hunting.

Go Up Go Down

hi everyone,I'm new member and been lurking around for a while before my first post.several years ago i found a treasure that consisted of a mens gold watch and a wedding ring set also old coins and a diamond bracelet.i found it while swimming in a shallow creek with a small waterfall.i went up inside the waterfall and it was wrapped in a leather pouch and stuffed behind some rocks.the thing that caught my eye was the pouch had rotted out and the chain from the watch was dangling out from the rock.i couldn't read the print on the watch because it was in Chinese or Japanese.i showed it to my grand parents and they told me there is a ww2 prison camp there that held Japanese and German prisoners.i went back several times but never found anymore treasure.i never went into the camp.nothing really left standing except the wire fence and foundations.it's in the middle of nowhere so its never been looked at except by a few locals.after reading all the posts,i may have to go back to have a closer look.just thought i would share.thanks

Some times be best discoveries are found by chance. Well done for having a sharp eye.
