It will give you some idea of how big an old tree might be......One thing! If you find old trees in the woods with carvings on them it may mean a house was near this spot. Possibly A good place to start detecting. In many places everything grows so fast the ground is covered with brush in 10 years if left undisturbed so nails in trees or carvings may be the only above ground indication you have that a house was there.

It would be hard for a board kid to climb 30 + feet lowest limb is a good 20 feet up beech tree is 4 to 5 hundred years old according to an arborist I spoke to and gave measurements of tree to.that's a Spanish helmet above the Indians head and the Indians has a tear coming from eye.

Beach Tree
It is a large tree, capable of reaching heights of up to 49 m (160 ft) tall[3] and 3 m (10 ft) trunk diameter, though more typically 25–35 m (80–115 ft) tall and up to 1.5 m (5 ft) trunk diameter. A 10-year-old sapling will stand about 4 m (13 ft) tall. It has a typical lifespan of 150 to 200 years, though sometimes up to 300 years. The appearance varies according to its habitat; in forest conditions, it tends to have a long, slender light-gray trunk with a narrow crown and erect branches, in isolation with good side light the trunk is short with a large and widely spreading crown with very long branches.

Well I'm not a tree expert that's why I contacted an arborist to get a professional opinion.I'm just repeating what I was told about the age of the tree.and no I don't have it all figured out or I would obviously have already found the treasure.thank you for your input all comments appreciated. I can never learn enough.

This area has never been logged there are oak trees bigger than I have ever seen.the land owner claims one took 7 adults hand in hand to reach around it. Its in an isolated valley very remote for the state its in

Well lets use a little logic here. The tree seems to a couple hundred years old at best to young to have Spanish markings plus the marking are very crud not what you would expect from people hiding a treasure.
Before you continue you need to research Spanish activity in the area. Are there stories or legends of treasure cached in the area? Have any relics or artifacts been found to show the Spanish moved though or occupied the area? If there was a treasure where did come from what was it and why hid it?
If you want to be a successful treasure hunter don't fall into the group of dreamers and conspiracy nuts who think that every little mark leads to a big Spanish or KGC treasure.
