Hi there.

Got my detector back and looking forward to get going with this awesome new hobby

I was going through some tests to see how the Canadian coins read differently than the American ones and I noticed that some of the Canadian ones were all over the map in how they read. Any of you fellow Canadians have some tips on how to accurately read what I am seeing? On a side not, all the American coins detected bang on

Hi, I don't know which detector you are using mine is a Tesoro Vaquero and does not give a rating for an object the rule of thumb is, you only dig signals that are "repeatable" so not too complicated and being so close to the US border I find many US coins they sound exactly the same aCanadian coins with my machine,

Thanks for the reply. Nice collections of coins there

I have a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 and it will show on the scale if it's a nickle, penny, quarter, etc. The American ones I tested with always show what they are on the scale, but the canadian ones show a bit differently. I may not have had the best test envinronment when checking this out. I'm assuming the metal composition is a bit different between the two countries. As for the signals, if it repeats, I dig. I Love when I pull something out, even the trash

CC your making two newbie mistakes here if I am reading between the lines right. First forget about the meter 99% of the long time hunters don't pay attention to its wrong 70+ percent of the time pay it no mine and listen to the sounds the target makes. Second air test or detecting planted coins will not help very much, a coin that has been in the ground for some time will react different then a coin being air tested.

Here is my suggestion. Start hunting dig every single remember the tone/ sound your detector made soon you will understand why many of us don't use the meter.

The Bounty Hunter they are good detectors to start with and have a easy learning carve so just start hunting and forget the bells and whistles

Your machine scale is set up for the American Coin Metal Composition. Copper Clad, Copper, Nickel.

Your Coins are not made of the same metals at all . The Pennies may show about the same?

Yeah, pennies show up about the same. Our loonie (1 dollar coin) was all over the map

And I think the nickle was reading as a quarter or the other way around, can't recall. After that I just decided to dig what ever comes up

Dig what ever beeps.....BUT carry a small notebook with you and jot down what you found, what the reading was, and how deep the target was. (and if you can remember, what your detector settings were). After a few months, you should start seeing some patterns possibly with variance based on age of coin, depth, and detector settings. And in the meantime, you'll also learn to trust your ears at least as much as you trust your eyes.

Hi CCS,That is probably why your signals are not interpreted the way you would like, the US coins are of different metal compositions, on the other hand silver coins should come up good every time, look forward to some of your posts/pics....Johnnn.........HH
