Well a freiand of mine was given a box that contained some odds and sods that the owner was going to throw out..In the box were 3 WW1 Canadian Medals.
Now all WW1 Canadian Medals ( and other Commonwealth Countries Medals) Have the Name, Rank, unit and number stamped into the rim.
The pair of Medals ( The War Medal and Victory Medal) are named to a man in the 102 nd Battn CEF and the Single "Victory" Medal is named to a man in the Canadian Engineers ( His silver War Medal is missing
The Man with the CE was from NY as many Americans Joined the Canadian Army in both Wars as we were invloved long befroe the US were.
Canada is the only Country in the World that has all of it's WW1 Soldiers "sign up" papers online...it just shows the basic info..but it's a start.
I use an Ex-RCMP Officer to do my research at the National Archives..and he can find the entire WW1 paperwork for any WW1 Canadian Soldier for about $40 and it takes only about 2 weeks.
I can't believe that this guy was going to trown the box out..it came from his family!!
Here in Whitby Ontario I out on the Annual Nov 11th Rememberance town display..the displays included weapons ,Enigma machines, siutcase radios, other Military items and a few cases of dug up buttons and badges from all countries and time periods
These Medals will be included this year..hope to have the paperwork by then.
