Go Up Go Down

yeterday i was driving around from farm to farm in a small town near where i live in Morgan, Utah.  i saw some old pioneer homesteads on a piece of property and eventually after a couple of hours, hunted down the owner.  i asked to get permission to metal detect on that property and he said that he would first have to talk with his family members that own it.  as i was leaving, i heard someone call out for me to come back.

when i went back over there i was met by an older fellow that asked me why i was so interested in the local history.  i expressed my appreciation for history and trying to be a part of seeking out, finding it, and preserving the past.  he is writing a book on the history of that small town, and asked me if i would like to hike up to some Mormon malitia breastwork fortifications that had been built during the Utah war of 1857 in defense of Johnston's Army.  he asked if i would go up there and document my findings in both writing and by taking pictures for his book.  i jumped at the chance to be a part of writing his book on this areas fascinating history, and he gave me the contact number for the gentleman that is in charge of the land for a Mormon cattle company.  apperently the are is shut down to the public all of the time, and this would be a a rare chance for anyone to go up there and see what was built over a hundred years ago, that only scholars remember and people of the present forget.  I'm looking forward to being a part of this quest for this book

Congratulations.   That's a major coup.

thanks alot!! i'm looking forward to stepping back in time, to help record that period of time.  especially in an area where no one has gone for quite a while because of the property being privately owned
