the poor dogs are a nervous wreck, their first 5th November and they didn't like it.   Angry
i don't know why we bother with Guy Fawkes night? It's a British thing not a kiwi thing, just an excuse to make noise and be crazy. A waste of money if you ask me.
The big public display at the pier is great to see, but the nasty screeching banging things that they retail for stupid amounts of money hold no appeal for me thanks.

does that rant make me sound old and grumpy??   Undecided

anyway... it's going quiet now so we can drag the puppies from under the bed covers and put them in their own bed now i guess.

Over here in SA it's becoming something of the past and I must agree with you it's a waste of money it's noise pollution it's $#@! irritating and dangerous every year there's some case of serious injury now i don't really mind if it injures some fool that is not capable to use them in a safe way but most of the time it's an Innocent by stander that gets it like animals and kids not to mention elderly people.

I can sympathisize with you about having to calm down nervous dogs when the fireworks go off......I've got a corgi mix that spends a whole lot of time in the bath tub or under my computer desk every New Year's Eve and 4th of July (especially on the 4th since they usually  have a major fireworks display about a 1/4 mile from my house).  Somehow that corgi manages to get into the tub despite old age and having acl problems

Shocked in the tub??!!  poor wee thing!

ours are only 6 months, so they'd never heard it before, they ended up on the bed, one under
the cover, the other wedged between the pillow and the headboard behind her-indoors head!
but they are fine this morning, we went to the dog park this afternoon and they are all tuckered out now, snoring and dreaming  Grin

I think its a bit of fun mostly. Sure the dog's will get a bit nervy, and there can be a few injuries... Ive had a few close calls myself and the odd bit of burn over the years. Safety first &
enjoy the displays I say  Cool

Hi Goldnboy,

Yeah it should be fun, it was when we were kids, and the big public displays are great.
The thing is now the have banned sky rockets the replacements shoot things that screech and explode at 20-30 ft, so in the past all the noise was 70-150 ft above us, it's all just above ours heads now. so if they are going to persist with it they could try to minimise the damn noise! bring back the good old days i say....

man! that makes me sound ancient!!  Funny
