If I won, I'd have to hire one or more of the pros here to design and build an all purpose MD for me that would allow me to switch between VLF and PI, if not on the fly, then at least with minimum adjustments (I suppose once I paid for it, I'd be back to where I am today money, wise)

You Know,
I don't suppose it would be THAT hard to do, sounds like a great idea to me and it wouldn't surprise me at all if something like that was the next "leap forward" in MD' ing.

Paul and BA, such a device is already on my drawing board with a few circuits already built and tested. There's a lot more there based on the thread I started around a year ago asking for suggestions regarding the ideal metal detector. I paid attention and took notes.

There are no technological blocks to such a machine but there are weight considerations with dual circuitry. Sharing a processor with two distinct processing modes means a high capability microprocessor and long term memory storage are essential. The system itself will also be complex to learn and may be just too much for the average detectorist, whatever that happens to be.

I expect a prototype or two to be ready in a couple of years.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hi GD,
I'm well impressed! look forward to seeing that!
As regards complexity...... well...... if you can get your head around a Minelab then it shouldn't be too much of a problem!

Don't be too impressed, Paul. My pile of failed circuits is growing faster than the successful ones. It really is a complex issue, mixing the technologies. Be impressed when the prototypes are ready for field testing.

Thanks all, I ordered a Minelab E Trac from kellyco last night and am looking forward to some good finds in the areas I have previously hunted out.

Back on Subject : If i won the lottery I would buy a nice River Yacht and travel the eastern waterways from the great lakes to the Gulf and all the major rivers in-between, would just keep the MD i have now and continue beating the snot out of it , If i ever picked it back up again.
