Hi Guy n Gals,
We're in the middle of changing over from alkalines to rechargeables.  Great Great

Have any of you used Tronics aa NiMH 2500 rechargeables as sold by Lidl,
and if so what did you think of them?

The other brand is Ansmann aa NiMH 2700 rechargeables, we're only guessing at the moment but we think they will be the better ones.
The build quality looks super strong. Anyone tried them?

Detecting Detecting Detecting Detecting Detecting Detecting Detecting
We've also got an Ansmann Schumacher high speed charger which finishes
on a trickle charge. Charges 4 batteries in 4 hours.
Opinions please?[/b]

Yeah Spidercan,

Will certainly do that M8.
I thought I might get some info on the usage of
these batteries in MD's from Christian.

Close up inspection of the Ansmanns reveal extra strengtheners
on pos terminal end, looks like they were made for a tough life.

Salut Ian,

I used both and they are both good. The 2700 mAh is a bit stronger or say longer lasting than they other one but only little difference in the field.

Regards,

Alain

Thanks Alain,   Shake Hand

That's the information I was looking for.   Beer Chug Beer Chug
I was a wee bit doubtful about the Tronic ones from Lidl's.
But, it's nice to know these things.   Great Great

Much appreciated.

Go Up Go Down

Ian,

Everyone seems to have a position on wether they should or shouldn't use rechargeables or why so please keep in mind that this is just opinion...

In my opinion battery technologies have come a long way compared to what some of them were like many years ago.  I for one am a big fan of rechargeable batteries for use in detecting.  I have used them for many years now in my machines.  I usually prefer to slow charge them since I have a couple of sets and can only use one set at a time when I'm out hunting.  A charger like you have mentioned will work great as well though and with it ending with a trickle charge it would probably keep the charge maintained if left on even after they had been charged.  The thing to really look at when purchasing rechargeable batteries is that mah rating.  The higher the rating usually means the better the staying power while out in the field.  Either of the brands and ratings that you mentioned should work fine for you but as Simpson said the 2700 may hold a little better in the field for you. I think the ones that I run are rated at either 2650 or 2700mah and they do quite well for me.

One thing to bear in mind is that alkaline batteries tend to drain slowly and rechargeable batteries tend to drop off quick when they get very low but the beauty is that once they start to get low like that rather than having to buy a new set of batteries you can just recharge them.  The rechargeable batteries cost a little more than alkalines but it's well worth it as you can recharge them many, many, many times before you would have to replace then.  The sets that I currently run I have recharged many, many times and they are still going strong for me.  When you think about the cost of the rechargeables vs. the alkalines it really isn't that bad for the rechargeables and well worth it if you like getting out and hunting which I know you two do.

Just my opinion and 2 cents.

I would think that the 2700 mah would do very well for you but hopefully Christian can chime in as well as I'm not familiar with the two brands that you mentioned.  Over here in the states I've been running mainly Energizer NIMH .

Good luck.

Hi String,   Circle  Great Great

Nice ta see ya again, it seems like I been away forever.
It's takin' me a while to get used to the board again.
We appreciate yer 2 cent's worth, and that's just confirmed to us that
we've made the right decision.
Over here the price of alkalines has almost doubled in 6 months,
that makes rechargeables look a much better option.
Just as a matter of interest, we've also got the energiser slow charger as well
but it seems awful slow. Prolly use it from time to time specially on top ups.

Didn't think you statesider's would know about the Tronic batteries
since Lidl's is a European shop, most of their stuff is German/Belgium/Holland etc.

Great to be back M8.

Me, I use the 2300mAh NIMH from ALDI, they do 1000 charge/discharge cycles and I?ve never had problems with them either.  Kiss
