I'm seeing more bad news about bad flooding without warning in Brisbane and other areas.  Are all of our mates here on the boards okay?

Yea! Last year they was blaming Global Warming on the Drought.

I have a few people I talk to on Skype down there  in Brisbane  and Skype shows there on line but no answer.

Looks like they got a few years of water ALL at once.

No Good.

I'm on the other coast, high and dry. We have some serious bush fires nearby but no flooding. We all await the end of the rains so we can get some relief to those poor folks over there. Some will be without power or running water for a month or more. Today, a crest of 60 feet (not a typo) SIXTY feet is expected and evacuations by the military have begun in earnest.

The people in Queensland and Victoria need your prayers. Now.

Auminesweeper lives in the UK. Csharp and Hardluck are affected to some degree but they seem to be posting all right.

What we need is a check in by all Aussies to tell us how you're doing. Your friends here are concerned for your safety.

I just called some mates here. As soon as it stops raining over there, this will start.

The Indian Pacific Passenger line will not be running passengers west to east for the next week after the rain. Instead, it will carry freight only for the first time in 35 years. It will also carry troops, troop transports, heavy equipment, food, water and supplies to the stricken area. The supplies are being amassed in the Canning Stockyards and industrial areas now.

Relief efforts by entertainers, TV & radio stations and passing the hat type of collections across Australia will begin. Australians are very generous and this will be much needed.

As I write this, emergency service personnel, army reservists and the West Australian State Emergency Service (10,000 volunteers strong) are being mobilized and put on alert until they are called to help. They are told to be ready to move in 15 minutes.

My friend and his wife are over 70 and not able to travel so they will be on the phones and radio here helping to organize the logistics of it all.

This is JUST the efforts in Western Australia. Each state will organize their own efforts through the federal relief agencies. Friends, I must tell you that this is absolutely the worst disaster to strike Australia in generations.

Go Up Go Down

Hello All

I am fortunate enough to be on south coast of N.S.W. We have had lots of rain but no where near like Queensland. My sympathies goes out to the victims of the flood especially the families of the missing and of those who perished.

The responce to the disaster by local state and government emergency services handling the disaster has been excellent under the trying circumstances.

In the days and months ahead lies the real challenge of rebuilding and establishing services to the affected areas. I only hope the professionalism of those involved will maintain law and order until things can get back to normal. So far the people of Queensland has acted very stoic in the face of adversity. Some thing they can hold their heads high. Down but not out.

Hardluck

This song epitomizes the attitudes of those affected.
