go ahead and move it if needed. Off beat question for gold searching folks.    If I ran my MD over this piece, what are the chances of it detecting any gold that may be within it? This has been laying around in my yard for years and I am getting a bit curious. As you can see when I first got it a friend of mine decided to chip some of it away to see but nothing. any opinions would be greatly appreciated thanx. and yes, thats a bar stool its sitting on, it is a big heavy piece lol.

if there's any metal inside of it you should be able to detect it.

Hi Dobbie, If it contains a lot of gold you would get a positive signal but if only a small amount of gold is present it would depend on the gold being in one piece not fine gold spread throughout the quartz, a good detector will give a positive signal on less than a tenth of a gram. I have a Minelab GPX4500 which would easily locate a small piece but not fine gold. Also remember that the quartz could contain native copper, this will give the same signal. The only positive way you could check is to crush the quartz and pan it off.
Regards, Brian

If the matrix is known you can calculate the gold amount. This example is for gold in quartz .
