Braddock received a mortal wound in battle, and George Washington led the retreat back to the mountaintop camp of the British supply train. Here, at Dunbar’s Camp, the army destroyed supplies too heavy to carry back to Fort Cumberland, and fleeing eastward, chose the roadbed for Braddock’s grave to prevent the general’s body from being defiled by the enemy.
-
George Washington was in charge of destroying, not hiding, the cannon. I doubt he forgot where they were a few years later when supplying the rebel forces.
I have not been able to find any mention of gold being left behind.
-
Seems Braddock left a trail of cannon everyplace he went.

Dunbar's' camp was the last camp of the heavier supply train lead by Col. Dunbar. It is just north of Jumonville Glen where it all began.
