I don't know if I have ever told this story on this forum..but here it goes.

A few years back a guy metal detecting a park a couple of towns east of me found several Roman bronze coins in a park..all in rather poor shape.

He kept this quite until he had really hit that park and as I remember he found 12-15 Romans,

Well of course he thought that history as we know it would have to rewritten..but he quitly did some research..but could find out nothing.

It just so happened that there was a school very close to the park...and one day this fellow saw another relic hunter checking out the site..he kept out of site and watched...at some point this other relic hunter got a target..dug ( picked) it up and went away happy..so the first guy went up to him to ask what he had found.

The 2nd guy showed the first guy a Roman coin..the 1st guy asked why he was not surprised about finding a Roman coin in an Ontario field.

Well... seems like one of the History teachers had been to the UK over the summer...bought a bunch of low grade Roman Coins to give to his students to keep them interested..after these young people had got them..they went out for a break into the park..and it seems many lost them as they were small.

The 1st guy asked the 2nd how he knew this..his son was one of the students that had lost one of the coins...and he wanted it back!!

No joke, this is a true story
Roman coins lost once and found..taken to Canada..lost again and found again!!

Laughed my ass off when I heard it the first time..still talk of it here.

Dean
