I didn't know any of the firefighters, but I do know some of the people working at the first shelter to open....down the hill in Congress. Some really sad stories coming out of there (none more so than those of the 19 firefighters, but sad none the less). Residents thinking they had a couple of hours to prepare to evacuate based on everyone's best estimates and then having to literally leave in minutes to keep from being trapped----no id, no money, no favorite photos, no time to do anything for any of their animals except leave the door open in hopes they could survive. As can be expected the immediate community and the extended community through out the country has been pulling together to support all those directly effected whether it be the families of the fallen firefighters or the firefighters still on the line or the residents who in many cases literally lost everything except the clothes on their backs.....even the "evil" banks have done their part---residents without their IDs were given access to their funds based on people vouching that they were who they said they were (of course it helps that in small communities everyone pretty much knows everyone else).
