Well as a rule when I buy a car I get something old and beat up for a few hundred dollars and drive it till it dies..I could new see the use in buying a new car.
When I was in the Canada army we still drove M38A1 ( CJ5) Jeeps...by then they were 20 years old and beat to crap..when I got out I swore I would never ride in a Jeep again.
I had to replace my 1990 Toyota Tercel this week ( loved that car...cost nothing to run and went like stink) so what did I end up with??? A 1995 YJ Jeep
I was a bit leary about buying it..but I needed something quickly.
When I picked it up I told the lot manager that It would be going to my mechanic to make sure the certifacation was proper.
My machanic tore it apart...the frame ( which on that model rotted) has a hard coat on it and looks brand new as are the leaf springs..all new brakes and drums..new exhust ect...it needed nothing.
He thinks the Jeep has never been off road..the soft top has never been on the Jeep ( it is still folded in the original bags),.
So it looks like I can make some longer drive to relic hunt this year..and maybe head South to visit some American friends I have not seen for 3-4 years...it's going to be a great summer!!!
A couple of friend that have new Jeeps 2005 2006 Love mine as it has the Military style front bumper and the 2 "round" bumpers on the back...also I have leaf springs instead of the coil springs they have...so mine bounces like a real Jeep.
Also as I paid outright for my Jeep and both of theirs are leased..I can modify anything I want, while they can't.
God knows what my Jeep will look like in a few months!!!
Dean
