As you know , World Famous Yellowstone Park has had hundreds of earthquakes since last month , and all of a sudden they have stoped . Kind a scary now , Calm before the storm ??  Here comes the Big One , Maybe?  One of the Biggest and most powerfull Volcano's on earth erupted several thousand years ago  , and is hidden or buried below Yellowstone National Park !!!! I heard about this a few weeks ago , I am posting now because it has gone eerily Quiet , after 209 earthquakes last week  Shocked..............Any comments or good links are welcome Here ..................Thank-You......................Eugene52

Here's a recent article.

Yellowstone Supervolcano Earthquakes: Update
January 06, 2009 03:09 PM ET | James Pethokoukis | Permanent Link | Print
The Yellowstone earthquakes have settled down in terms of intensity, with nothing in the 3.0+ range since January 2. If they heat up, I will be back on this story.

It's been a lot more then several thousand years since Yellowstone erupted. I think it's been over 600,000 years since it erupted last. Seems to erupt every 600,000 to 700,000 years so we are getting close to perhaps another one although it may not happen in my or your lifetime. All I can say is I wouldn't want to be around when it does erupt as it will be a dramatic world changing event. Imagine a super volcano that spewed over 2000 times what Mt St Helens put out in 1980. On the other hand- someone like Al Gore might actually welcome it since it will begin a period of global cooling.. Funny

I just typed several thousand years , because I could not remember the exact number of years . But I do remember reading about a Volcano in India that erupted and coated the entire earth with thick volcanic ash , and that was believed to have started a "GLOBAL ICE AGE" !!! That would certainly get Al Gore to be Quiet !!! Wise Wise Wise....................Eugene52

I watched a documentory last year on Volcanos.Yellowstone is known as a Supervolcano and you better pray it never has a major eruption in our lifetime. It has somewhere between 5 to 10 miles of lava inside it and if it blows the entire United States would be covered in ash and the sun would be blotted out for months and after the winds carried the ash around the world our planet would enter another Ice age where all life would freeze to death.

I wouldn't want to be around either. Amen Amen Amen  I read about a similar supervolcano that erupted in the far east 79,000 years ago and scientists say there was such a bottleneck in the human population, by doing DNA testing- they estimate there were only 30 females of child bearing age left in the world a couple years later. The human population came that close to extinction.

Yeah it's quite a thought,
When you consider that Mount St. Helens' ash went right round the world,
2,000  times more ash would get us in some fine mess.  Thumbs Down Thumbs Down

Sounds like it would change the world as we know it, an' that's not taking into account the volume of lava or the amount of wildlife it would wipe out,
or the effects it would have on all plant life and mankind.   Torture

In a word "Devastating".  Teach

Saw a film once about a super volcano.  Cry Cry
(I know it's only a film but it gives some idea of the consequences.)  No no! No no!
Our natural reaction was,
We're glad to live where we do, no earthquakes or volcano's to worry about.  Laola
Sorry guys if that upsets any of you,
but it's bad enough for us being poor and over taxed.  Angry Angry
We don't need any other problems.

If there's ever a supervolcanic eruption anywhere on Earth- you will not be safe-no matter where you live.

It is very scary , because it is so Quiet now !!! IF IT HAPPENS , Here is a Map of the "potential Destruction Area "     I do not think  any one can accurately predict the amount of volcanic Ash and or Lava . I am just outside the circle west of Las Vegas , but I think the destruction will cover more than this stupid circle...............Eugene52
