Yes, it is. The very reason I stayed with XP is that need for Legacy support. It's required for some programs even. You pay hundreds of dollars and you can't even use it in the native Windows 7 operating system. Shame on Microsoft for that one.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I'm still on xp as well. I will have to change at some point for directx 11 but for now I'm hanging on. Toshiba doesn't make drivers for xp on those laptops either. Ran into that issue trying to get rid of vista on one before win7 came out.

One of the big reasons they cut off some of the legacy stuff is trying to reduce the bloat. Windoze has grown huge over the successive generations so something has to give at some point. Still it sucks when it's a favorite app.

I'd watch for a cheap (read free) xp laptop or pc just to use for the camera, or hit the closeout tables at staples, bestbuy, office despot, fred meyer, etc for a newer camera. I've bought several that way because they tend to meet with disaster around me...

Didn't have any options buying a new one.  All are 7.   My other was XP and loved it.

Called the Punjobs on the Toshiba site ., the asked for conrtol on my computer and I granted it .

First question was what Protection do you use.  He shown me a pile of errores in the reg system.

After I told him he said they could fix it for a fee.  Fart on that.

I just bought this thing last week.

It only has two USB ports.  It has a port for every thing else too.  Multi Card Reader, and two ports I've never heard of before.

I'll find a way.

Again sometimes old is good.   I can twist the focus out so far on the old cam that I can do better then Macros.

Hello Homefire . Give the model number of the web cam and I will research the drivers and send you some software if you like . I lost your e-mail address so I will send it through the e-mail link on the forum .

I hope your Memorial Day Holiday will be a good one .

Regards..............Eugene

It's just a generic web cam by Philips.

I have the soft ware that came with it and it will not see it.  The Software loads just fine.

Homefire, set the system restore point and load up the drivers Eugene linked. Looks like those are generic drivers for the camera line. If it hoses your system, go back to the restore point and all drivers will go away.

Just another thought but have you checked your TWAIN drivers? A camera is a TWAIN device and you have to select the one you want to use. See if your paint program (whichever you have) allows you to select the input device from a list which includes your camera. If so, set it as default.

Posted on: May 29, 2011, 10:24:29 PM
I just Googled the TWAIN driver for Phillips and got too many to count. You'll have to decide which one will do the job.
