Yes, many dowsers use the aerial photos from google/mapquest, ect. as a guide in making a location of the object of search.

Do people usually use the map directly from the monitor or do they print the aerial map out?  Which works best?

Yah... I was running my 16Kg pendulum P5000 (ver2) over my Sony Trinitron tuned in to Google Earth and must have hit an old gold mine.... The monitor blew up and is now in 10,000 pieces all over the room....... Wink Wink

Hi Nathan,
I don't know what is best, but printing out the image is what works for me and the dowsers I know.
I like to do the searching by physically touching the map/picture to pinpoint the location once I get a general area.
I have heard of people dowsing the image on screen. Don't know if they have the screen flat or upright. If it's upright then how do they get a swingline towards a target? I don't know how they mark the hotspots unless they mark on the screen(with what?) and have the image in a paint program. Are they scanning the screen with the mouse in one hand and the dowsing instrument in the other? That seems cumbersome and distracting, but give it a try if you'd like and see what happens, maybe it will work for you.
Jon
