story of juan Gonzales is easily findable on web.
Juan Gonzales claimed to have pirated alongside the infamous Gasparilla, after which he lived in small cabin on shell creek.  He promisedtwo gentlemen the oppritunity to find a cask worth several million dollars, upon thierr arrival at the cabin all they found was juan Gonzales dead body a jar full of coins and an engraved copper chart that up till now has not been yet deciphered. people have claimed to have seen the chart (pictures of it anways) but i have not. im not reall all that smart but love puzzles and would like the oppritunity to crack it. Who wouldnt.

wheelwoman27;

This sounds interesting, I hope this thread continues and developes, I like puzzle solving, and  cryptograms, too. Tell us more if you can.

Scroll down and you will find the story of Juan Gonzales and a drawing of the copper chart. Jeffrey Cramer has seen a picture of the chart. Maybe he can tell you more.
    I went to "Lettuce Lake" 2 years ago and it is not a real lake but a wide spot in a tributary of the Peace River. The water is black! If there is a treasure buried near there I doubt if it will ever be found.

Go Up Go Down

One chest of Silver coins was recovered on the South side of the Nocatee bridge. An Iron spike, leading to a chain, that lead to the chest. The Iron chest had a Brass bracket bolted to the bottom,bent up around the ends, and arms were  bent to extend outwards from the chest,with a Brass ball on the ends. This was designed so that two boats dragging a chain along the bottom could hook under the Brass arms, and the chest could be retrieved from the water. I understand the 1st National bank of Arcadia, was originally founded with this  chest of Pirate booty.

The River had already changed course in the !930's and this chest was recovered on land. Two more of these chests remain yet to be found in that area.

People have been searching the Lettuce Lake area for many years. I have not heard of anything being found there. The Peace River Pirates, transported  their loot  from Charlotte Harbor, far up the Peace River.

I located a Pirate campsite about 8 1/2 miles North of Arcadia.  There is a thick strata of fine textured White clay, under  a 6-7 foot  overburden of sand that has built up over the past 150 years.  The Pirates apparently chose this location because digging the moist clay was relatively safe from cave in, and easy to dig.  They dug down 12-15 feet, and cut vaults into the sides of the shafts, placed the loot inside and sealed the entrance with the clay. Water does not penetrate this clay, and the Treasure can be preserved and protected, in these vaults for hundreds of years.

On the South West side of Arcadia, extending West from the Peace River,  is a huge area of KGC depositories.  It appears they chose this area for the same reason the Pirates did. the Clay would preserve, protect, and conceal  the  great stores of Treasure, and armament for centuries.  Dell

salvor6;

I am afraid your link died.... I got the dread 404 NOT FOUND!  Shocked

Dell_Winders... I was not aware of another Peace River, can you give me a location?

The Peace River, here, is part of the McKenzie River system, and was named, as the English meaning of Unchaga, which is Dene for - Where  the Peace Was Made. That would be the peace between Beaver (Dene Zha) and Cree. Ye olden mappes, like HBCo. maps, show it as Unchaga.

I dont think there were any pirates, on this Peace River, unless it was Capt. Tommy Flat.... he was just craz... er.... eccentric.  Funny

goldigger.

I was at lettuce lake about a year ago.  If you walk through the woods down river you come to a new looking fence about 150 feet or so. The other side is some kind of campground/trailer park.
 Basically it's a boat ramp with 2 old dilapidated cement bathrooms and a few parking spots. The woods are very thick and not detectable without some serious bush clearing. The mosquitoes were very thick in there also.
