Rmiller, I like to hear our old time beach hunters tell about "honey holes" they have found. They find all sorts of jewelry and coins and other heavy objects in these honey holes. They say that longshore drift parallel to the beach concentrates the jewelry and coins in pockets and once you find one of these and dig it out you come up with loads of jewelry that has been dropped over a long period of time.
I have seen places that fit the description. They have yeilded metal objects (especially fishing sinkers) but no jewelry or coins as yet.
What to look for is a place where the water from the waves runs parallel to the shore for a ways then turns abruptly and flows out away from the beach. the honey hole is where it turns abruptly. We used to have an Ausie on the board that described it better but I haven't heard from him lately. good luck gambol
