Ark. man discovers 2.37-carat diamond

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

MURFREESBORO, Ark. -- An Arkansas man has found a 2.37-carat white diamond at the world's only diamond-bearing site where visitors are allowed to search for and keep the gems they find.

Gary Dunlap of Jefferson named the diamond he found the Star of Thelma to honor his wife of more than 10 years. Dunlap's find was the fourth-largest diamond found in 2006 at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro. In all, 486 diamonds have been found at the park this year.

Dunlap found the gem Sunday while looking near a Bois d'Arc tree on the park's 37.5-acre search field. He said he felt certain the shiny stone was a diamond when he picked it up off the ground.

I have been there myself a few years ago. Didn't find anything but had a nice time and met all kinds of interesting people. Of course the infrastructure now isn't anything like it was back then. Many , many improvements have made it a   place where even families can have a good time.

And yep- the place still has many, many valuable surprises in store for the lucky finders.. Grin Grin Grin

"digging in an area that is known to be the dumping ground for gravel that was trucked in 1924 to put in a road. This gravel is completely free from diamonds as it is not from the diamond field, however they found a remarkable 32 diamonds! "

Some people are just "lucky"  Grin Grin I think it's funny that they show his smug mug.

Thank$ - I'm patiently circling before I swoop down like a hawk. Sue
