The Exiteloceras is a species of Ammonite that does not conform to the norm as it does not curl into a "Snail like" shape. Instead it has more of a loose curl that has no defined shape.
I found one of these about 30 years ago and have been looking for another since. They are particularly rare in that you normally find only small fragments.
There are four different types of ammonite on this stone but I am most interested in finding the Exiteloceras.
I will post my progress as I attemp to remove the stone matrix it is embedded in.
This will take a while as the stone is pretty hard.
Once the matrix is removed the fossil itself will be a white pearlesant as is the Metoicoceras on the bottom of this stone.

very nice.  I don't think I've ever seen one of those before any place (including the museums).

Thanks yall, This is only the third one I have ever seen.
The one I found back in the 80's did not take much cleaning at all.  As I topped a hill it was just laying out in plain site as if someone had placed it there on top of a much larger stone.
There were no other fossils imbeded in the other specimen just the Exite wrapped around a baseball sized stone fully exposed and ready for show.  Shocked
BTW: I got a very good price at the Fossilmania show for it.
Over the years I have sold a tremendous amount of fossils at the gem/mineral/fossil shows.
I just wish I had kept a pictoral record of my finds. They are scattered around the world and impossible to get one now. Cry

I will go back out there soon and take my new camera with me. I have only had the opportunity to scan about 1/10 of the area. Maybe with a little luck I will find something else cool.
