Just a little something that turned out to be something.......
I found this in the woodbine here in the DFW area.
It looked out of place in the deposit so I plucked it from
the matrix and examined it closely.
What appeared, as if it were fashioned that way,
was actually formed by a process of ingestion and digestion.

It is a portion of fossil bone that had been ingested and subsequently
retained it's boney structure through a carnivores digestivesystem.
The incised cut in one end of the bone is a "Tooth mark".
I had some friends take a look at it and they wanted to buy it from me.
Not for sale.
I won't say what some people said when I posted it as "guess"...in another forum.
But that is what it is, and I really think it looks kool with the "Bite" mark.

Out4gold, That very extra cool Mate, I wonder how old it could be, Is it the stomach acid that makes it that color??

Most of the boney structure is replaced with an iron material.
I believe it falls in the Hematite/Appetite hardness range. It's pretty hard stuff.
The color can be explained from the deposit it came from.
Lot's of iron in the deposit. But the iron is in a ionic form and permeates any object buried in it.
It has a semi polished patina and to the amature it appears to be polished intentionally.
Shocked  Like I said it stuck out like a sore thumb.

I have found and collected other bones with scratches, where the tooth hit bone,
but they did not gouge out a cut as you see here.
All of the others are aquatic this one is terrestrial.
Age is in the neighborhood of 85 million years.
