Sue, Josey & ridgerunner,
1: The (polished) appearance is a natural effect caused by the
activity of the "Gizzard" during the act of digestion and
subsequent exposure to primordial conditions.
2: The material it self is entirely bone, it was at one time part of
a coprolite that had long since been dispersed from exposure at time of deposition.
I have dug "Petrified" Owl Pellets inside rock shelters before, in my experiences
in the Archaeological field, they all contained minute bones that are not present
in this specimen. It is one piece of bone.
In fact it is largely the inside of a much larger bone,
that had been ingested right along with the flesh of another Dino.
3: The possibility of it being made by "Hand of Man" is not possible.
The deposit it was taken from is over 85 million years old.
I am aware of it "Looks Like something" perhaps man made,
that is entirely the reason for this post being titled "a little something".
The deposits around here in the "Woodbine" contain numerous dinosaur remains.
I have found several, usually when I find boney material too large for me to "pick up"
I contact SMU or the Dallas Paleo Society. They have the expertise , resources and
volunteers to extract the larger remains.
