Believe it or not , there are even larger petrified logs than this one in the area that we were hunting......although this one of the larger ones in the wild outside the National Park that the general public can get close to.

If you look for my hat in the second picture, it will give you an idea of the size of this log.

I believe that there is an entire forest that if petrified I think that it's in some sort of cave or some thing like that must try and remember where I saw that article. Perhaps you know about it?

I'm not sure where that would be, but just about 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of this log is Petrified Forest National Park

I find it hard to believe those logs are not on National Park Land. In my experience, all the commercial dealers have taken the surface logs off of private property or BLM land for cutting  large slabs, bookends, paper weights,etc.
