Hi
I did read somewhere that Garnets are possible to pickup with a detector because they have an iron content ,  Has anyone had any experience with this or any other gemstone ?
If so what settings did they use and what depth did they find them and what detector did they use?

Really, I knew some would but I didn't know most would. Is there a way to find a listing of which ones will show up. We have a curio with a good number of raw gem stones and that would be really cool to display like that.

That could be interesting have a blacklight fitted to your detector and do a bit of rockhounding at night at the same time

Now that sounds like a good idea, I would never have thought of that.

Hi,
Most minerals react more to "short wave" u.v.
These "Short wave" lamps are very hard to come by, expensive and DANGEROUS.
Never look directly into one or expose skin directly - you will either end up with bad eye damage  or real bad "sun burn"
most easily available units are the "Long wave" variety usually called "blacklights" (as used in disco light, bank note scanners etc).
"Mineralight" used to make portable short wave units.
