If you mean meteorites, the best advice for me was given by Bob Haag, "look where meteorites have already been found". Well known sites are a good place to start learning how to find meteorites. Metal detectors for irons or stony-irons, sometimes stones if the local conditions are right. Meteoritical Bulletin is very useful:
