Go Up Go Down

I was down in Southern Utah and went to a place called Escalante.  I had been there once when I was a kid, and decided to stop there, while I was in the area to check out the Escalante Petrified Forrest.  This is an awesome place to go.  you hike about 0.8 miles up a gradual trail and it takes you to this area full of petrified wood of all sizes.  There are a couple of pictures that I have posted here that still won't give you a good idea of the size, however they are very large.  You can see where the trees had fallen, and how far one tree will span in length, while you walk around these spectacular specimens.  I have seen and found a lot of petrified wood in a couple of places over the years, but here is probably the best of display of color that I have ever seen.

BA.....that's awesome to hear that you have some specimens colored like these down there.  I have found some pretty good looking ones? but never anything this bright.  I remembered the post where you, Xavier, and I were talking about petrified wood, and I had mentioned this place.  It was because of our discussion of that post that I decided to head down and check it out again.  I find it fascinating to think of how old these trees really are and how they've stayed intact as much as they have over the millions of years.  as always, thanks for your post and you information.

Paul A....If I wasn't in a state park, I probably would have picked up a small piece or two, but was unable to do here without getting in some serious trouble, but next weekend I am headed to a place where when I was a kid, my dad and I found a petrified tree that was about 4 to 6 feet tall, and still standing in the ground.  It has since fallen, but I want to hike back in there and see if i can find it again and maybe take some chunks out, but I have to see what the ownership of the land is first.  thank you for your post and for your input, please take care.

Wow, great colors. Better looking than any petrified wood I remember ever seeing.
