no.....because there are a whole lot of factors that go into determining the value of petrified wood---such as its suitability for use in jewelry.   Let's face it, lots of petrified wood is kind of plain.....and then you get the pieces that are works of art unto themselves.

with more specifics someone could probably give you a pretty good rough estimate, but definitely not an across the board estimate for a generic 5.5 metric tonnes from anyplace in the world.

Understood, BitburgAggie, and thanks. You are right, most petrified wood can be rather plain and featureless, especially when compared to the ones which have very beautiful rings and patterns. The 5.5MT batch in Malaysian Borneo I saw was very plain indeed. My friend was offered approx USD300 for the lot, cash and carry. I know nothing about that market, but still, $300 seems a little on the low side. Anyways it's a willing buyer, willing seller basis I guess. He was happy with that offer and sold it, keeping 2 pieces as souvenirs.

SO what do I have to do to establish value or worth?

 Thanks for looking.

Bobby

Bobby I wholesale run of the mill pet wood for 50 to 75 cents a pound. Good branch and trunk pieces can go for 10 bucks a pound. Texas Palm wood can get high dollar. Its just to hard to price it from pictures. If you have a lot, check some local rock shops or visit the next gem and mineral show in your area.

I think that I'll display it somehow at home. The sparkling minerals throughout my pieces really make them spectacular looking!
