Nice haul you've got there, Aggie!  Smiley

I love the partially agatized look of them. Wish we had stuff like that over here in the UK.

What age are we talking here? Are they from the same Triassic deposits as the the Petrified Forest...?

To the best of my knowledge they are.   They were all found within a few kilometers "downstream" of the Petrified Forest National monument.

Nice finds BA. I too missed this one the first time around.

Did you get a chance to find out if the tusk is a fossil or not? It almost looks like it has a core on the broken end.

I am always amazed at where the petrified wood turns up. Here it's always some desolate area that makes it hard to imagine once a mighty forest stood. Bet it will polish up purty.

Hey, Idaho, thanks for the comments.   No, the "tusk" wasn't a fossil (I didn't really expect it to be).   It's a piece of chalcedony, with a nice coat of "desert varnish" on the outside.    I've set aside the best pieces of petrified wood for future lapidary work (when I can either afford the equipmen or find the time to use someone else's)

Nice going there BA!. Love the colors and the striations in them.

Was at a local CT flea market Saturday and a fellow was selling a print of the Wigwam Hotel!

Hey BA you can make a polishing unit very low budget. My dad has one he made years ago and it works great.

Basically just a motor in a box with a pad on top. You take some 3/4 ply and cut about a 10 inch or so circle, then cover it with some polyfill or even a stiff foam about 1/4 inch thick. Over that stretch a tightweave canvas and staple to the bottom. Apply some adhesive to the top of the pad and add grit from a rock tumbler. Works amazingly well and can be built for around 100$.

Next time I am out there I will take some photos if you are interested.
