I understand.  I've been watching meteor showers since the dawn of mankind (it seems) and a lot of them have turned out less than spectacular.  Although some really produce good shows.  My biggest problem now is that the fossilized bones in my body protest much too much when I try to push them to get up between midnight and dawn to see the best sky shows!  And the creaky old thing doesn't like the cold at that time of night, either!    Wise       Detecting

Ain't it the truth.....on the other hand sometimes you get some spectacular shows when you aren't expecting them.   New Year's Eve a bunch of us metal detectorists camping southwest of Phoenix were privileged to see a truly spectacular single meteor streak across the sky to the east of us.  Very large, very bright, and very long lasting (though there have been no reports of an impact).

Very true, Homie!  There are some good sites out there.

BA, sometimes you just get lucky and see a really spectacular individual meteor.   I remember  Wise  when I was about 13 or 14 in October, I was outside running around the neighborhood and I saw a huge, bright meteor come streaking overhead.  I turned out to be a bolide (exploding meteor).  That mother blew up, I heard the explolsion, and it produced a lot of little babies that quickly disappeared.  What a sight!  What an experience!  It left a smoke trail that stayed in the sky about a full minute.  Unbelievable!  Glad I saw that one!                       Detecting
