It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I guess you are right, I never noticed before, but it does look like a fig. By the way, figs are my favourite fruit, I think they are nectar of the gods! Wink

That ammonite is really cool. Is there a place that I could dig for my own. I'm always looking for new and different treasures in the area.
I live pretty close to the bearpaw formation, just a couple hours to Alberta.
I looked on the internet for places to dig and found 2 mines that were digging and selling ammonite, but didn't say whether they let the public in.
Here in Helena we have been looking for sapphires over the past few years and have allot of good cuttable stones.  Pray

It has a similar look to Abalone...Not the shape, but the coloration of the fossil...

It's a rock on the ground, it's a specimen when you take it home.

Now that's talent.
I would like to do some trading for some of that too!

Figgy,
Are you a fossil collector or are you in it only for the money?
I do have an extensive collection of Texas invertebrate and some vertebrate material I use to trade for some of the things I find interesting.
If not, I can wait because in late Oct there is a fossil show and sale in Glen Rose Texas. There is a dealer there who sells them pretty much as what you have.
His did not appeal to me as much as yours does, sort of plain Jane wire wrapped, not as elaborate as what you are showing. Same cab use same colors but your wire wrap technique seems unique.
I really like the one Seldom has pictured, it seems as if you were trying to capture the essence of the material as it appears to be a tree/vine against a sunrise/sunset.
PM me if you are interested in seeing some of the material I have for trade.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my proposal.

Hi Racedaddy, well you might be able to find some near the border Alberta/Saskatchewan. Here in Alberta you are allowed to only surface collect and the mines don't allow anyone to dig, however, I'm organizing ammolite/dino hunts for this spring/summer, I will be offering accommodation, transportation and all meals, the hunts will be a week long, also included will be visits to Jasper and Banff Provincial Parks and the Burgess shale, it will be a great adventure for anyone interested in fossil hunting. Let me know if you or any one you know may be interested in it, PM me if you like for prices and dates. Smiley

Hi out4gold:

Thank you for your kind comments. I'm a collector but I also sell/trade depending on what you have to offer, all my pieces are one of a kind, but I will also custom make to your liking, PM me with what you have in mind. Smiley

Great idea. I've read that the beartooth shale area reaches into Montana and that some of those mine were digging in very old river bed areas, so I think that searching along river banks and beds could turn up something, if it hadn't been in the sun to long.
