The Rock Hound State Park is a cool little park nested up to the Florida Mtns here just out side of Deming.

Over the Years it's been frequented by Collectors seeking Jasper, Quartz, Carnelian and other collectibles.

Contently your allowed to take up to 15lbs of samples and Material.

There talking bad things here.:

I sent my message. Soft headed thinking that rocks in the ground have a value that can be preserved by leaving them there. In the ground these rocks have no value. The only public value they have is if they provide recreation and intertainment for the people that dig them out of the ground. The defininition of Protecting Natural Resources shoud not include putting them behind a wall where the public cannot utilize them. gambol

Here's the Note I sent. A bit lame but put the point across.

Hello!

Please allow me to express my concerns on Rock Hound State Park.

The idea of disallowing the collection of Rock Samples is a Bad, Bad idea!

That park is the only State park that allows the Rock Hound to participate and enjoy a long standing hobby.

People from thousands of miles away come to partake in the hobby.

They don't come to look at the Mountains and and say Awwwww!

They don't come to be blown around by the horrific Deming Winds!

They don't come to sit in the HOT sun and watch there Picnic dinner wither !

They come for the Rocks and Mineral samples!

These folks spend a pile of money in the pursuit of there hobby and I for one would rather they spend it here in Deming then some place else.

Please, Please Put a halt on the Idea of ending the collection of material and samples from the Park.

If you put a stop to the collection of material and samples, you may as well close the Park gates, save the Tax Payers Money !

That park has little else to offer as a Park other then the Winds , Hot Sun!

Thanky for your Time!

Very well put Homefire. It's sad there are so many people looking for a cause that they have to invent a crisis so they can save the world. Can we have some middle ground? Okay so keep the folks with backhoes out and let folks enjoy collecting a few shiny rocks that 99.9% of the world will never care about.

All I can say is, "Great, just (expletive) great. It is so bad out there that a (expletive) state park named after its primary patrons is outlawing its own (expletive) supporters! Are these people (expletive) stupid!? Don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question. Does anyone else see how this does not support conservation? This makes it kinda sound like rock hounds are going and clubbing baby seals! Hey! I gotta joke for ya! Baby seal walks into a club (add rimshot)!"

All right, now that I have it out of my system, I would encourage each and all of you to write to the email address provided to show your support of the rock hounds. Be polite, and congenial... believe me you get a better response.

Cheers

Sean
