Antoine Duprat, born in Issoire in 1463 and died on July 9th, 1535, is a French cardinal, chancellor of France.
He is first president to the Parliament of Paris (named on February 8th, 1508), when Louise de Savoie entrusts him the education of his son, become Fran?ois Ier. In the advent of this prince (1515), he is named chancellor of France.
He follows Fran?ois Ier in Italy, negotiates with L?on X the concordat of 1516, which sacrifices the Gallican liberties, and shall register in the parliament of Paris, despite the strongest opposition of the sovereign courts, universities and the clergy of France. The chancellor becomes since then the object of an universal hate, hate which still increases when, to face up expenses which caused the war against Charles the Fifth and in the abundance of the court, he creates and sells services, and raises contributions on the clergy.
he write the Custom of Auvergne, the collection of the civil laws of the province of Auvergne, ordered in 1510 by Letters patent of the king Louis XII.
In 1519, on the death of Philippe de Montauban, he combines chancellor's load of France with that of chancellor of Brittany. He keeps a huge credit: during absence and the captivity of Fran?ois Ier, Louise de Savoie, regent of the kingdom, that governs by his counsel, and the king, on his return, ruins a procedure which the Parliament had begun against him.
Duprat, widower for several years, embraces the ecclesiastical state in 1517, and combines several bishoprics. He is first bishop of Valence in 1522. The regent names him archbishop of Sense; in 1527 it is created cardinal; on October 19th, 1528, he obtained the office of bishop of Albi (he held until his death) and in 1530 he was appointed legate. He takes care then particularly of business of religion, and causes all essential measures which are taken against the Protestants.
On the death of Clement VII in 1534, he wants to succeed him, and offers to Fran?ois Ier to meet by himself at the expense of his election; but the king does not support his candidacy.
It is because he hoped he could buy his election as pope whom the chancellor Antoine du Prat had collected in a secret vault of his castle of Nantouillet about 400 000 ecus hidden in barrels.
The revelation to Fran?ois 1st of the existence of this destiny made him suspicious and was reason of its disgrace.
He died in 1535. Immediately the king invests his castle, all property of the chancellor was grabbed but his treasure remained untraceable.
The castle of
Nantouillet is based on a complex system of tunnels where very much probably rest gold barrels.
Nantouillet - Village of Go?le nested in valley of Beuvronne, located in 30km east of Paris. This small village of Seine and Marne area of 515 hectares, now counts 265 inhabitants. It is crossed by a water court: the Beuvronne. Its name of Celtic origin ? Nanto means wet valley ? certifies an ancient existence (Neolithic). Nantoletium is named for the first time in the
XIIth century.
