I just ordered the AT Pro.  Supposed to get by the weekend.  Everything I learned lead me to believe that this will be a great overall machine.  Since I am brand new to metal detecting I'll be learning on it from the ground up (so to speak) so I hope it is a good choice.

Hi Bobby, people who own fishers are quiet about it. I like to coin shoot, I want to have a good idea what is down there.

How does the F5 hold up for you? Is it your main machine?

I hope to upgrade by the summer. I use a couple of nail hunters, and the clad is adding up fast.

Thanks

casca.
I bought my Fisher F5 last spring and it's all use. I did allot of research before I decided on it, what I really like about this detector is the ability I have to fine tune it fast at my finger tips. You have a constant reading of ground mineral content and the ground balance can be set instantly as it changes with a push of the phase lock button.
the separate gain and threshold knobs are just simply a wonderful fetcher to have.
The target readout is pretty good, if I get a 28 its usually a nickel and a 82-84 is usually a quarter with a Pos. confidence bar readout. I still have a problem telling the difference from a penny to a dime with a low confidence bar, but if it's a strong bar at 70-72 it's usually a dime and under 70 a penny.
I am happy with the depth. The deepest I found was a old nickel at around 8"
Zinc pennies can sometimes show up anywhere from the teens to the sixties that can get frustrating.
I feel I got the got the best detector for me at $500 plus the package that came with it from Kellyco.
I hope this answers some of your questions.

Regards
Bobby

Thanks Bobby.

I liked the fact you can detune the F4. I noticed when you take something away you gain something else. I'm sold and I can use my Bounty Hunter coils on it too. But it sure is a pretty thing with the stock coil. I don't normally go for number readouts, but need that for a few places I want to start hunting. I see the F5 has a few more options. The F70 looks like a kick A$$ machine too.

I hate to see overseas post beating up American made products. I know each manufacturer has such a large assortment that its hard for someone not to find a machine they like.

Im going to try and join in a couple of group hunts this year. That should help me a little.

For depth I think I'm gonna go Whites. I also have found a red baron that looks pretty good. But haven't got enough clad saved up yet.

After playing with a manual ground balance machine, I have to have that option in my future detectors. I never really looked at recovery time as when Im swinging and really looking, I go slow and low. I do have a trick for a fast search, but its cheating as far as I'm concerned, and may not work for all detectors.

I still think the AT Pro can be a hard machine to beat, and I disagree my bounty hunter performs as good as a AT Pro. Now how I use my BH is another story.

Minelab is another sleeper machine. I know those guys over there build good stuff. I spend a few hours a week just reading on what they are building next. Maybe after I get me a F4 and my whites I'll try a minelab. I'm still learning the Bounty Hunter, so don't expect to get but one machine this year.

Why so many machines? Each one has a specific purpose, I hunt all kinds of places, and one machine could do ok, but I want a good machine when I hunt.
