we'll the ace 350 is a great machine.  One of the best tips with garret is take a look at the Target ID and see what it does when you scan the object from different paths.  If its jumping every where its probably trash if it stays around the same ID then its a good target.

That's an interesting notion, Moxie, but digging every target will show that even trash readings can sometimes be treasure. A small gold ring almost always shows up as trash. Only digging good targets leaves a lot behind for the rest of us.

Use the indication as an amusement, not a serious tool, and you will find things you would have missed.

I have had the the 350 for over a month now and I am still impressed with this machine.  I have much to learn, but I am now pretty comfortable with this md. I would recommend the 350 for anyone starting out, or as a backup machine. I will eventually go to a more expensive md, but I had rather learn the 350 now and then in the future get my main machine; than to buy an expensive md and have to set it down to learn a back up! Smiley

My best find so far is a 1911-1912 Model T hub cap.

Good keep going bgriffin, If you target ID is jumping around alot just turn down the gain or sensitivity a little and that should

make it a bit more stable and it will ID things better

Nice Hubcap.....as for outgrowing the Ace 350, maybe you will and maybe you won't.   There are a lot of very sophisticated hunters here that still find themselves grabbing the "entry" level machine despite having much more "sophisticated" (and high dollar) machines at hand.  A lot of it depends upon what you want to do at the moment.

garrett gta 1000

If the 350 is anything like the gta 1000 I can tell you this.
I am a coin hunter and when it hits a coin the target id will lock on in all directions and will
not bounce.I have scanned targets getting a good signal and all at once
the target id will bounce down into foil and right back up to a good target. When this happens on the gta I can almost assure you that
the target is not a coin.I have dug hundreds if not thousands of these targets always thinking the
md might just be acting up and I just might be missing a coin,so I must dig to ease my mind.
I can tell you that 100% of the time I dug these targets the MD was right and I was wrong, the target was not a coin
but it was trash.I have since learned to trust my MD and I no longer spend the time digging these signals.

I am sure you will dig many of these hits while learning to trust what your MD is telling you but in time and with
practice you will come to trust your MD and when the target id even flickers around you will know that it is not a
coin.Yes once in a while I still dig one of these flickering signals but only to confirm that the old girl still has it
and in no way would she ever lie to me.

Good luck with your 350 and keep on diggin, with time and practice you will come to really trust your machine
and what its telling you and then look out thats when the fun really begins.

Like all target ID detectors, a piece of junk laying over a gold ring the size of a walnut will indicate trash. Dig it all, mate. One day you will be grateful for that. And don't forget the exercise value to it all!

Hmm I don't know - if it says trash, usually rings are in that range, so I'm digging it up anyway. Not that I've found any mind you. How about when it shows up iron? Do you guys skip that?
