White's Classic 5 ID, Garrett Sea Hunter MK II

I've had my Garrett AT PRO for 8 days now. I've found a lot of coins and a few pieces of costume jewelery and 1 10K gold medallion and 1 small 14K gold ring.

The AT PRO works very well on land, but it takes some practice to pinpoint with the double D coil. I'm still having a lot of trouble with the pinpointing as I thought a might find a Toyota Corrolla in one of the holes I dug.

I tried the AT PRO in the surf for about an hour and it nearly drove me nuts in the shallow ankle deep water with the constant noise and chatter, which I retested the area with my Garrett Sea Hunter and no noise or targets. The AT PRO quieted down once it was in waist deep water and dug a few bottle caps.

I will have to give a longer water test the next time out.

HH

I was going crazy is the shallow water tried standard mode pro mode then every combination on the modes.

It was constant noise and I was about to head in when I decided to take it to deeper water then it settled down. I worked the deep water for a few targets then went back in a got my Sea Hunter and went over the same area in the shallow water and no target or chatter.

When I got home and thought about and wondered if it was because I had a coil cover and maybe the sand and water were moving around in between the coil and cover until I was in deeper water and a little more water pressure to calm it down.

Just a theory. I will do thorough test on it the next time I'm at the beach.

Most detectors mess around if the coil is in and out of the water it does upset the GB,  But if you turn the gain down just
a little that may help, and also dont forget the coil puts a signal up as well as down and the surface water may have been
bounceing the signal around.

Thanks, after taking it out for the first time and the first target I dug was a gold medallion I thought man this could be a really good sign or a really hard one to match.

Thanks again.

Thanks, I think you may have pinpointed the solution. I looked at Garrett's video on ground balancing the AT PRO in saltwater, described what you mentioned. If recall I ground balanced on the wet sand but didn't reset the gb after entering the water.

It may be a week or two before I can hit the surf again, will update when I have a chance.

Thanks again!

Auminesweeper,

Thanks, I'm not sure about the hottest. I've just been very fortunate and also diligent about trying to hunt as often as time allows.

I'm researching a few spot to hunt in the future.

Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement.

Regards James
