I found Kellyco has a sale on the excelerator coils 10x14" for the ace 250. Normal price is $329 and its on sale for $99. Would one of these be better then the 9x12" coil that came with my detector? I am going to the beach next weekend and going to do some beach hunting. What are the benefits/cons to this coil compared to my 9x12 that came with my 250? Here is the website that kellyco has them on, and a description of the coils with prices at the bottom.

Hi saltfisher,

Been looking for a bigger coil too. Am also wondering the difference of the size of the coil and its effect on hunting targets. Hoped somebody can enlighten us here.

I have both the 10x14 DD Excelerator coil and the Garrett 9x12 for my ACE. The 9x12 goes about 2-3 inches deeper than the stock 6x9 in my test garden. Generally, going to a larger coil means you will miss smaller targets, but I haven't found that the case with the 9x12. More depth and larger area per sweep are the benefits of a larger coil. I don't have much time on the 10x14 yet to give you a good review. It seems to be more sensitive, and by that I mean it will chatter in an area that the 9x12 is quiet. So you have to turn the sensitivity down. I haven't had a chance to get out on the beach with it or the park. Hopefully this weekend...

I believed so. The 9x12 seems like a better choice for an alternative coil. Planning to go for a bigger area some day, so a 6x9 will not likely go far, unless you have a 24 hour to spare! ...Thanks PaulSRQ

I put some time on the new 10x14 excelerator coil yesterday at the beach. It did well. Out in the open away from electrical interference, it didn't chatter or false on me like it did around my house. I didn't dig anything over 6-7 inches. Unfortunately, it ate my batteries before I had a chance to bury a few targets and test the depth. I'll get back out there in a day or two and test it out. It pinpointed well. I was able to cover the area much faster. No complaints. As for the price, it's worth $100, but I wouldn't go any higher than that because as of right now, I haven't seen it do anything the 9x12 hasn't done. I'm going to hit a park with it today and see how it does.

Write back asap. Im looking into ordering the 10x14" coil today from Kellyco. How long does it take them to ship once a order is placed? Looking to have the coil by next weekend. Also when i said above that i have the 9x12, its NOT the 9x12. I have the 6x9" coil. It takes forever to cover the beach with that coil. Also looking to get more depth. Seems the 6x9" coil gets about 4" on a coin. What does the 10x14" coil get?

Thanks

They ship fast. If you order it in the morning, it is usually on it's way the same day. I live in FL and I ordered mine on a Tuesday morning and I had it Wednesday afternoon by UPS ground.

My standard 6x9 coil is in the box and will stay there. I get about 6 inches on a quarter with the 6x9 and about 8 inches with the 9x12. If you are going to use the 10x14 excelerator exclusively on the beach, I definitely recommend it. I took it to the park today and had to swap it out for the 9x12 because it was getting too much interference. At the beach there was no interference and I could crank up the sensitivity. Sorry, my lithium batteries went from full power to 1 bar when I was out and I didn't realize it until I was finished and going to check the depth. I didn't think it would be fair to check depth with such low power. I'll try to get back out there this week, but I can tell you it's my beach coil from now on.

I thought I'd post an update on the new Detech 10x14 DD coil for the ACE.  The more I use this coil, the better I like it. I went over an area this morning that I had scanned pretty well last week with the Garrett 9x12 coil. I found a few coins with the Garrett coil.  With the Detech coil this morning, I found about 20+ coins that I missed with the Garrett 9x12. I was using sensitivity notch 6 of 8 and digging around 8-9 inches deep. I do think the discrimination is better with the Detech coil. It chatters less. Pinpointing was right on as well. I found that pinpointing in one direction, then move 90 degrees and pinpointing again puts the target right under the coil.

A larger coil amost always makes a difference in depth.

We tested the Garret Ace 250 with the large coil, and the detector with the large coil goes much deeper. See the "Hombeek oct 2008"-test on our website:
