Not having any GB Salt water would be out for sure.

The little Ace 250 performs ok in fresh water.

Drop it once and you in deep Dooo Doooo!

GB - is that ground_base?

OK, so you're talking about getting a shock and it shorting out right? OK, so I won't take it into the Great Salt Lake then.
That would be bad.

GB = Ground Balancing...and dropping it in the water and shorting it out would happen whether you dropped it in the Great Salt Lake or Sweetwater Creek.

As for whether the ACE250 works in the wet zone on saltwater beaches or not, there IS a whole lot of debate (that sometimes got pretty heated) on record here on our Beach and Shallow Water hunting board (and possibly on the Garrett board).   Bottom line is some people report success and others can control the chatter.

Neither have a GB circuit that will deal with Salt Water.

Just go to the Beginners Forum and look around.

If you trip on a rock or just plane fall down give it a dunk, your in doo doo.

I didn't say they did have GB....I just said there were several very major arguements on our boards between those who swear they had decent results in the wet zone of saltwater beaches when they took their 250's there  and those who swore it was impossible for anyone to effectively use an Ace  250 on ANY saltwater beach anywhere in the world.  (The second group--the "it won't work worth a damn crowd"---also had some people who had actually tried using a 250 in such conditions, but a whole heck of a lot more who had never picked up a 250 in their life).

Play with it. Learn your machine and it will work fine for you. Even on the beach or in shallow water. Underwater? It will last about 35 seconds or so.

OK, thank - no I wasn't (at all) planning to dip the control box into the water. There was a video I saw (I think the guy's ID on youtube was NESWIPER)... where he had fished out three rings from the lake in shallow water, so I was thinking that might (possibly) be OK to use it in 1-2 ft of water just getting the coil and extension pole wet is all.

Really, it's kind of funny to read about people getting all steamed up over little stupid issues and reading the replies from both sides of the arguement. It gives me a good laugh.  Tongue

Murphy's Law!      If it can go wrong it will.

If I was to use a Regular detector in the water, Some Point , Some Place I would stumble and it would end up in the water. Shocked

True! So, how much would a water resistant metal detector cost? Do they have any makes/models under $500 that is about the same caliber as the Ace 350?
