Start out by describing where you go to hunt. People lose jewelry when they play. If you go to a volleyball court, baseball diamond or track and field meet, the grasses are normally lush enough to hide dropped objects. Kids rarely lose jewelry so go to places where young adults or grown ups play or have family gatherings. Think of distractions. Watching a bunch of kids playing takes your mind off jewelry often until it's simply too late to remember where you dropped an item. The best detector you own is between your headphones, not in your hand. No batteries required.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
